Soaring Wings was a great venue once again for the Mud Fest. Lot’s of people listening to music, running and just hanging out.
The obstacles and double mud pit really gave the runners their moneys worth this year.
The costumes, kids and spectators made for a very fun day.
Thanks a lot to all that came out and to my sponsors and volunteers.

With Kearney a few days away make sure you have your gear ready to go. The things I will be most concerned about is a red light, head lamp or bike light, first aid kit and water. The other items that are required you must have but I won’t let you ride around in the dark without lights.

Make sure you have looked at some of the clues I previously posted and I will give you a couple more this week.
I want to make sure you know Kearney very well before you leave!

Allow yourself plenty of time to get checked in at the Activity Center and then long course only to drop off your bikes after check in.
This is going to be a great time.

I posted information for the next few events coming up. There are some changes and additions so please read closely.
Registration is now open for the races up and through the Indian Cave Trail Run.

Working out a few details but I will be doing an Orienteering class out in the field soon. Should have info up in a couple of days.

With the Mud Fest a few days away the course is mowed and will be all set in a couple of days.
Don’t forget you can still register up to race start so plan on getting there a little earlier.
Check in will start at 3:00pm.

I hope you have been doing your homework for Kearney and finding out what clues I’ve given you like the Mochila and others up to this point.
This week you will need to know the address of the Educational Service Unit #10, the name of the Recreation Superintendent, the distance to Pleasanton, Ne. and how long has it been since you were on a horse.
You can still register up to the race start but you will be charged a small extra fee for shipping.

Don’t forget and I will remind you all again the check in will that Saturday the 11th from 3:30-6:30pm at the Activity Center 2020 West 11th at Yanney Park.
BIKE DROP WILL BE FOR LONG COURSE TEAMS ONLY AFTER CHECKING IN FIRST AT THE ACTIVITY CENTER!

Information and updates on the Lake to Lake adventure race along with the Moose’s Tooth Urban Assault bike adventure race will be coming in the next few days.

The Wild Hares adventure race for October 23rd is coming together and I know the guys will be putting together a great course so if you want to end the adventure season around here go to www.raceregister.net to sign up and get all the race info.

The Wild West Eco adventure race in Kansas proved to be one of the toughest of the year.
Char Harris did an awesome job with her volunteers and putting together a challenging course.
The start / finish was appropriate being at the Munson Angus farms. They were excellent hosts serving up great food at the end.
You throw in teams that are all very equal in abilities and then factor in the running, trekking, biking and canoeing it all came down to navigating and being able to stand the heat and wind better than the next team.
I was very proud of the Nebraska crew that went down, my team of Scott Stopak and Trish Kramer for keeping me going, working with the Donner Party and Road Rash and then watching Road Rash qualify for Nationals.
Great job to everyone!

This week it will be up to Soaring Wings to set up the course and get that mud pit ready. Good thing about this event is it doesn’t matter what the weather is like because we are a mess anyway.
Remember that you can register up to race time.
Time to get dirty!

Shirt order is going in for Kearney on Wed. the 1st but we will still take registrations up to race time and get shirts to you for a shipping costs.
It will be fun to race at night.
I think I have more fun watching the local people react to a bunch of people running and riding around with helmets and packs looking lost.
There will a few more clues this week.

For those of you doing the Lake to Lake if you want a refresher on Orienteering and map work I will be doing a class at Moose’s Tooth in 2-3 weeks. I will post the date and time soon.
I am going to try some new ideas on the racers for this one. Even the short course people will see some different things.
Start studying those maps of Lancaster, Gage and Otoe counties.

Workouts for the week: Monday ride @ 6pm Wagon Train.
Wednesday run @ 6pm from the Wilderness Park lot at 25th & Saltillo.
Thursday ride @ 6pm Hickman across from the U-Stop

Fall season is getting here, it’s football season and the weather will make it easier to train.

Have a good week!

Good luck to all that are racing at the Thunder Rolls adventure race in Illinois and to the crew of us going down to Milford Lake, Ks for the 12 Hour Wild West adventure race.
For all of you staying at home get out and mow that yard, get some training in and go to the State Fair. It looks like a nice weekend.

I am excited about how the fall season is shaping up with the events left.
There is a great variety from the Mud Fest next weekend to the trail runs at the end and the Moose’s Tooth urban and Lake to Lake in the middle.

For those of you that have never ridden or ran at night Kearney will be a great opportunity to try your night vision skills.

The urban on October 10th will starting and finishing at Moose’s Tooth located at 70th & Pioneers Blvd in Lincoln and be done completely on bike.
Flyers and info will be coming out next week.

Have a great weekend and I will post workouts for the upcoming week on Sunday.

Numbers are rolling in for the Mud Fest Sept. 5 so get signed up to recieve your shirt and get your costume ready to go.

I have a request from Olympia Cycle for a teammate to fill in Mick Goslin’s spot for the rest of the season. Mick has developed some health issues and the girls are looking for someone. They are a lot of fun and would be a great team to be a part of.
Drop Beth Hersh a note at beth.hersh@alegent.org if you are interested.
